Plastic to Build up Lighter Car

In modern era, the uses of plastic have been increasing in an unimaginable way. Its contribution in automotive industry has made it possible to light the weight of cars. Plastic consumption in plastic industry is growing and will continue dramatically. Plastic made bumpers are up to 10.4 kilogram lighter, engine covers are 4.2 kilogram lighter and plastic fuel tanks are five kilogram lighter than those conventional materials. Moreover, Chassis, drive trains and transmission parts can be far lighter because of the overall lower car weight.

“The automotive industry is approaching an era that may revolutionize its use of materials. The major aim of industry is to decrease the weight of the automobile in order to reduce fuel consumption, and consequently emissions.” All these show the importance of contribution of plastic in automotive sector. It has been predicted by MITI (Japan) that the uses of plastic in automotive sector will increase because the demand of car will never stop rather will be in increasing order.
